Patriotic ceremony held marking Russian victory day

The traditional historical and patriotic ceremony "Immortal Regiment" and "St. George Ribbon" was held in the capital of Bangladesh to celebrate the Great Victory Day of Russia.

The traditional historical and patriotic events "Immortal Regiment" and “St. George’s Ribbon” dedicated to the celebration of Victory Day were held in capital of Bangladesh. Pavel Dvoychenkov, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, told TASS about this.

According to him, "The march of the Immortal Regiment annually unites hundreds of Russian and Bangladeshi citizens who want to honor the memory of the heroes who fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War."

“The number of participants in Bangladesh this year was unprecedented compared to previous years. The event was held in the format of a motor rally. There were more than 50 motorcycles, more than 30 cars and about more than 200 people,” he said and emphasizing that the local police ensured the safety of the convoy.

Along the way, volunteers and students distributed St. George ribbons to the residents of Dhaka and explained the meaning of the symbols. "Local residents reacted with great interest to what was happening, especially when they found out that the event was organized by Russia," Dvoychenkov added.

"The Immortal Regiment" is a public event which is held to immortalize the memory of participants and victims of the Great Patriotic War. Traditionally, on May 9 or on nearby dates, its participants usually marched in a column, carrying banners with photographs of their veteran relatives. Since 2020, the event is usually held in an online or mixed format. For security reasons, the traditional march was not held in Russia in 2023.
