Nine Injured in Clash Between Two Student Groups in Motijheel

A clash erupted between two student groups, "Students for Sovereignty" and a group of hill tract students, near the NCTB office in Motijheel on Wednesday afternoon. 

The incident happened under the metro rail structure adjacent to the NCTB building.

Nine individuals, including a journalist, were injured in the incident and are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. 

The injured are identified as Shreshta Rupaiya, 24, Isaba Shuharat, 25, Rengiyong Mro, 27, Futonto Chakma, 22, Dhanjitra, 28, Anonto Dhamai, 35, journalist Jewel Mark, 35, Shoili, 27, and Danwai Mro, 24.

DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Md. Faruk confirmed the matter.

He said that the injured arrived at the emergency department and are being treated.

The clash follows tensions over the removal of the term "Adivasi" (Indigenous) from textbooks by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) after demands from "Students for Sovereignty." On January 12, NCTB removed related illustrations from the online version of the textbooks.
