Election Commissioner (EC) Abdur Rahmanel Masud on Saturday assured that the upcoming national polls will be conducted without any manipulation, emphasising that a “sufficiently supportive environment” has been created for voters across the country.

Speaking to local journalists at the Rangpur Circuit House during a high-level meeting on the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election and accompanying referendum, Masud said:

“We are visiting different regions to monitor preparations. Some 1.8 million officials and personnel, including returning officers, assistant returning officers, police, BGB, army, and Ansar-VDP, are engaged in election duties. All are committed to delivering a free, fair, and credible election for the nation.”

The meeting, chaired by Rangpur District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, included members of the District Law and Order Cell, Vigilance and Observation Team, Election Investigation and Judicial Committee, and executive magistrates responsible for six parliamentary constituencies in Rangpur. Regional election officer Delwar Hossain, district police superintendent Marufat Hussaine, and Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Toffael Hossain were also present.

Masud stressed that the Election Commission is operating without pressure despite ongoing political tensions, but urged cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the polls are “smooth and widely accepted.”

“Our message is clear: we oppose all movements that threaten the election. Citizens must play their part in creating a fair and peaceful environment,” he said.

Highlighting improvements in Bangladesh’s political and electoral culture, Masud noted that the leaders of the two main parties have largely honoured the EC’s directives to maintain a fair campaign environment. He added that parties opposed to the EC’s guidance have voluntarily removed posters and cancelled tours that could disrupt the process.

“What political leaders say against each other is part of the election campaign, a normal strategy. But we condemn all forms of violence and killings,” Masud said.

The EC also confirmed that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to carry out a thorough investigation into the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, signalling the commitment to law and order alongside electoral integrity.

Masud’s remarks come as Bangladesh gears up for a historic election, with millions of voters set to decide the country’s next parliament amid heightened scrutiny of fairness, security, and transparency.
