BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the party does not seek “politics of vengeance” and will withdraw all cases filed against the Awami League if it comes to power.

He said, “We do not want retaliatory politics. We will not file cases like the Awami League did. We will withdraw every case against the Awami League.”

Mirza Fakhrul was speaking at a views exchange in the grounds of Shapla Government Primary School in Mohammadpur Union on Tuesday.

Addressing demands by Jamaat-e-Islami and allied groups, he added: “They are trying to force their demands, including PR—referendum. We do not accept this.”

He also criticised an Awami League-announced “lockdown,” urging the party to apologise to the public, and reiterated that the BNP seeks “politics of peace” through elections rather than retribution.

Recent reports indicate that police action and heightened restrictions are in place around the Awami League’s planned programme on November 13.

District BNP leaders attended the event, including Thakurgaon District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin and General Secretary Paygam (Paigam) Ali, according to recent local coverage using these spellings.
