  23 Nov 2024, 03:58

Adviser to Railways Ministry Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said the previous government has wasted crores of money in the name of railway development.

“Railway lines have been installed unnecessarily. But the quality of services on essential routes didn’t improve,” he said during a visit to Pthe arbatipur locomotive manufacturing factory in Dinajpur on Friday.

“Railway network has been expanded everywhere without focusing on the quality of services and facilities of passengers,” he said.

Replying to a question, the adviser said that railway stations were constructed at various places including Gopalganj unnecessarily to make a person happy.

Fouzul Kabir said the Karnaphuli tunnel was constructed at a cost of Tk. 10,000 crore with mostly no use. So future plan will focus on improving the quality of services to passengers, he added.

Director General of Bangladesh Railway Sardar Shahadat Ali, Chief Executive of Central Locomotive Factory Saiful Islam and senior officials were present.
