Wife and Child of Jailed Chhatra League Leader Found Dead in Bagerhat

Police have recovered the bodies of the wife and child of an imprisoned Chhatra League leader in Bagerhat.

Bagerhat Sadar Model Police chief Masum Khan said the two bodies were recovered from Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon.

The dead were identified as 22-year-old Subarna Swarnali and her nine-month-old son, identified by the single name Nazif.

Subarna’s husband, Jewel Hasan Saddam, is the president of the banned Chhatra League’s Sadar Upazila unit.

He has been in jail since being arrested in a case filed on Aug 5, 2024.

Police said Subarna was found hanging from a rope tied to a ceiling fan inside the house, while the child’s body was recovered from the floor.

Officer Masum said, “No comment can be made on the deaths at this stage. Police are investigating the cause of death. Details will be shared after the investigation.”

The bodies have been sent to the Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
