Tuku for upholding spirit of language movement

Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Shamsul Haque Tuku said here today that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman united Bengali nation on the spirit of language movement.

"We want to go ahead on that spirit" he added.

The deputy speaker was speaking as the chief guest in a function on Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2024 on the premises of Santhia Upazila Parishad of the district.

Tuku, who was former Chhatra League leader of Rajshahi University, said language movement in 1952 prompted the mass movement in 1969 that ousted Ayub Khan.

He also praised for Professor Dr Shamsuzzoha, the then RU proctor and a teacher of the university chemistry department, was shot dead by the Pakistani military in front of the university main gate on February 18, 1969.

Vice Chancellor of Rabindra University Md Shah Azam and Santhia Upazila Awami League President Md Hasan Ali Khan were present, among others, with Santhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mst Alpana Yasmin in the chair.

Earlier, the deputy speaker took part in a view exchange meeting in Bera Upazila of the district.
