Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam has urgied a united effort from filmmakers, government bodies, and stakeholders to uplift Bangladeshi cinema globally, focusing on improving film quality through policy changes, better funding (like revised grants for high standards), digitization, and supporting institutions like BFDC, aiming to make local films competitive and recognized internationally.
"All stakeholders must work together to present Bangladeshi films on the global stage. Such efforts will improve the livelihoods of film-industry professionals and help the country move forward," he said Tuesday while addressing a cultural evening as chief guest in the city.
He said the government plans to amend grant policies to boost film quality, moving towards higher standards for both short and feature films and will provide all-out support to improve the standard of films, ensuring producers meet deadlines and quality benchmarks.
The event was organised on the occasion of launching the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation's (BFDC) Business Automation Service, Cine-Archive, renovated Digital Sound Recording Studio and renovated Jharna Spot.
Highlighting ongoing development activities at the BFDC, the adviser said the current interim government has taken effective initiatives for its improvement.
Over the past few months, rooms used for editing, colour grading and other technical work have been renovated, he added.
Securing funds for these tasks was challenging, he noted, but with the efforts of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the work was completed promptly.
Mahfuj Alam said BFDC will ensure work opportunities for all concerned, adding that even those living abroad will be able to apply online to work.
He expressed hope that no syndicate will exist at BFDC, and that scriptwriting, production and distribution of films will be brought within a unified ecosystem.
He said a proposal has been placed at a meeting with the Chief Adviser to advance the construction of a film city in Kabirpur under a public-private partnership (PPP).
He expressed hope that future administrations will continue the initiative.
The adviser said audiences still want good content, and filmmakers must produce according to their expectations.
He urged stakeholders to create high-quality content based on local and regional languages and cultures.
BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani, in her welcome speech, said the corporation's main goal is to make filmmaking easier.
BFDC's modernization is ongoing with the aim of elevating Bangladeshi cinema to global standards, she added.
BFDC Director Mamunur Rashid, President of the Bangladesh Film Directors' Association (BFDA) Shaheen Sumon, actor Bapparaj and producer Shirin Sultana also spoke at the event.
Earlier, the information adviser inaugurated the BFDC's Business Automation Service, Cine-Archive, renovated Digital Sound Recording Studio and renovated Jharna Spot.
The programme concluded with a cultural performance featuring renowned artistes of the country.
