Bangladesh to Face Pakistan A in Preparatory Match Ahead of Champions Trophy

As part of their preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy, Bangladesh is set to play a warm-up match against Pakistan A in Dubai on February 15.

Bangladesh, placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, and New Zealand, is expected to depart the country on February 13. Their tournament campaign will kick off with a high-profile clash against India on February 20 in Dubai. The Tigers will then face New Zealand and host nation Pakistan on February 24 and 27, respectively, both matches scheduled in Rawalpindi.

Before departing, the squad will have a brief training camp lasting four to five days, according to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official.

However, some players, including national captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, have already begun preparations with assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin. Players still involved in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will join the camp at a later stage.

Shanto’s team, Fortune Barishal, is set to play in the final, but despite his involvement, it is unlikely that Shanto will secure a spot in the squad. Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal had previously mentioned that Shanto didn’t fit into their combination. Moreover, Shanto’s recent form has been a concern, prompting him to work closely with Salahuddin to regain his rhythm.

Not all players will undergo pre-departure training, as the team management has opted to allow pacers some rest following a demanding BPL season.

Head Coach Phil Simmons has already arrived in Dhaka and has been observing BPL matches. Spin Bowling Coach Mushtaq Ahmed is expected to join the team in Dhaka on Friday, while the rest of the coaching staff will head directly to the UAE.
