Labor Reform Commission chairman Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed Friday said there is no alternative to unity in establishing a discrimination-free society and labour rights.

"Only a well-organized organization can play a supporting role in gaining strength. The Labour Reform Commission is working to update labour laws to create an impartial society. We must remain united in establishing fair rights and proper dignity for working people," he said.

Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed came up with the observations while addressing as chief guest the general meeting of Bangladesh Labour Congress (BLC) at the National Press Club here.

Presided over by BLC president Abu Eusuf Mollah and conducted by its general secretary Nazma Akhter, the meeting was also addressed by Labour Court Bar Association president Abdust Sattar and Awaj Foundation chairman Momtaj Begum.

"We are and will be on the streets to establish a dignified minimum wage structure, enact democratic labour laws, ensure decent and dignified employment, a safe working environment and universal social security due to climate change, the right to bargain and freely form trade unions, and form responsible trade unions and ensure fair participation," BLC general secretary Nazma Akhter said.
