BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday said the need to protect the fundamental rights of all ethnic groups while building a fascist-free and inclusive Bangladesh.
Speaking virtually as the chief guest at the national representative conference of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Khudro Jatigoshti Dal at Tareque Memorial Auditorium in Town Hall, Tarique said minority communities played a significant role in securing democratic rights during the dictatorial period. “Now, an opportunity has come to establish civil rights for all in a dictatorship-free Bangladesh,” he added.
He said BNP is committed to creating employment, ensuring a safe environment, and protecting citizens regardless of religion, caste, or tribe. He also urged ethnic minorities to extend support and vote for BNP in the next general election.
Recalling historical initiatives, Tarique Rahman highlighted Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s efforts in the 1970s to improve living standards and preserve the culture of small ethnic groups in Mymensingh, including the establishment of the Birishiri Culture Academy, Tribal Welfare Association, student hostels, radio programs, and special government job opportunities.
He said the importance of education, employment, and democratic participation for minority communities, while also announcing BNP plans to protect language, culture, and social values, simplify recruitment processes, provide foreign technical training, and support women entrepreneurs.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, addressing the conference, said the event reflects the philosophy of Bangladeshi nationalism promoted by Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, emphasizing equal rights for all citizens.
The conference, chaired by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Khudro Jatigoshti Dal President Mrigen Hagidok, was attended by BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, party leaders, and around 1,000 representatives of minority ethnic groups from 12 districts of the plains region.
