
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan thas urged district information officers to intensify grassroots-level publicity and voter motivation activities ahead of the upcoming referendum and the 13th national parliamentary elections.
She made the call Monday while virtually addressing a views-exchange meeting with district information officers, organised to review the progress of outreach activities related to the referendum and the 13th National Parliamentary Elections 2026, according to a press release.
Rizwana, who also serves as Adviser for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources, stressed the importance of preparing detailed publicity schedules in coordination with other election-related ministries and agencies. She said such coordinated efforts would ensure more effective voter awareness programmes while optimising the use of public resources.
The session was also addressed virtually by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Local Government Division Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, and Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana moderated the programme.
Farooki highlighted that a leaflet providing a practical demonstration of the referendum is nearly finalised and will enrich publicity efforts. He also advised integrating District Information Offices and local administrations with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ ‘Voter Caravan’ programme.
Adilur Rahman Khan noted that offices under the Local Government Division could actively support election campaigns led by the Ministries of Information and Cultural Affairs. He emphasised that such coordinated efforts would yield stronger results in election-related publicity.
During her moderation, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana outlined the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives for the referendum and the upcoming elections.
She said the Department of Mass Communication is conducting intensive outreach activities through information offices in all 64 districts and four upazilas, with a special focus on the referendum.
To encourage participation among first-time voters, young voters, women, and voters from small ethnic communities, region-based popular songs are being produced and widely disseminated.
The Info Secretary also highlighted that under the ‘Votalap’ and ‘Ten-Minute Brief’ programmes, the public will receive practical demonstrations on the referendum process.
Heads of information offices from all districts attended the online meeting, along with Additional Secretary Dr Mohammad Altaf-ul-Alam and Director General of the Department of Mass Communication Md Abdul Jalil, among others.
