Grandmother, grandson killed in Sherpur house fire

An old woman and her grandson were burned to death in a fire at their house in Paistirchar village of Kamayerchar union under Sadar upazila here early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Firoza Begum, 70, wife of Md. Amanullah Montu of Paistirchar village and her grandson Sharif, 7, son of Habibur Rahman.

The fire originated from a cattle room of the house around 4am and soon engulfed the adjacent rooms of the house, where they were sleeping, Sherpur Fire Services and Civil Defense Station inspector Delwar Hossain said.

Being informed, fire fighters of Sherpur Fire Station rushed to the spot, doused the blaze and recovered Sharif's dead body and injured Firoza Begum from the spot, Delwar Hossain said.

The injured Firoza Begum was sent to Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Emdadul Haque confirmed the matter.
