BNP senior leader Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan on Wednesday urged those fueling conflicts and divisions in the country to stop and return to the path of unity to build a proud and dignified Bangladesh.
He made the appeal while speaking at a discussion organized by Jatiotabadi Muktijoddha Dal at the National Press Club, protesting the ongoing falsehoods and propaganda targeting BNP and its acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
“I am at a loss for words to describe the recent troubling events in Bangladesh. My only plea is for all to come back to the right path — the path that can restore Bangladesh’s pride and respect in the world,” Dr. Moyeen said.
The BNP Standing Committee member criticized those who have used offensive language against BNP and Tarique Rahman, saying they are neither loved by the people nor acting in the country’s best interest. “These attacks aim to destroy our society, culture, and international image,” he added.
Dr. Moyeen urged a deeper understanding of who is behind these divisive actions and called for holding them accountable. “I appeal to those spreading hatred and division: learn to love Bangladesh and its 180 million people. Only then can true unity prevail,” he said.
He also raised concerns over recent incidents across the country, calling for transparency. “We must find out whether these events are genuine expressions of the people or orchestrated dramas by those intent on undermining Bangladesh’s ideals and values.”
Highlighting the critical state of the nation, Dr. Moyeen emphasized that a credible election is the only way to restore democracy and stability. “We firmly believe in democracy. The sole path to its restoration is a fair and neutral election. There is no alternative — neither here nor anywhere else in the world,” he stated.
He warned that anyone opposing democracy or seeking to govern by other means is fundamentally opposed to BNP’s principles. “If anyone tries to impose dictatorship under the guise of democracy, BNP will never accept it,” he asserted.
On democratic governance, Dr. Moyeen acknowledged that differing opinions are natural. “We will resolve differences through dialogue and debate, reaching decisions democratically. Following this path prevents conflict.”
Also speaking at the event, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Farroque condemned Jamaat-e-Islami for derogatory remarks against Tarique Rahman. He accused Jamaat, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and some other parties of attempting to create instability to benefit the Awami League.
“Jamaat and NCP have begun chanting slogans against BNP and Tarique Rahman. We know who finances these forces with illicit funds — Hasina’s associates, who amassed black money over 16 years,” Farroque claimed.
He added that recipients of these funds are now making inflammatory comments to delay the upcoming election. “We must resist these conspirators,” he stressed.
Farroque urged those who made offensive remarks about BNP and Tarique Rahman to apologize and withdraw their statements to avoid serious consequences.
He also said that NCP leaders are misguided by extremist factions, leading them to make reckless statements and wrong decisions.
