BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman virtually addresses a discussion arranged by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal in the capital on Monday.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday urged his party leaders and activists, especially from Jubo Dal, to earn and uphold the people’s trust in order to emerge as genuine leaders of Bangladesh’s future.

“Earn the trust of the people. Remember, leadership is not given—it’s accepted by the people. If they embrace you, you are a leader; if they reject you, you are not,” Tarique said while virtually addressing a discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, BNP’s youth wing, in Dhaka.

The event, titled “Anti-Fascist Movement and My Unspoken Words”, was held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), commemorating the anniversary of the historic July-August Mass Uprising of 2024.

Tarique called upon all pro-BNP forces—be it Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Mohila Dal, or the party’s legal forums—to actively engage with the public and present BNP’s vision for a just, prosperous, and democratic Bangladesh.

“All our programmes are designed with the people’s welfare in mind. If you believe in the ideology of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and follow Khaleda Zia’s leadership, it is your duty to communicate our vision to every citizen, because in the end, the people’s verdict is supreme,” he emphasised.

“We need the trust, support, and cooperation of the people to implement these plans, which are created for their betterment,” Tarique added.

Reflecting on Jubo Dal’s courageous role during the anti-fascism movement, Tarique praised their unyielding spirit. “Despite brutal crackdowns by the fascist regime, Jubo Dal never abandoned the streets. A total of 78 Jubo Dal leaders and activists laid down their lives during the July-August Mass Uprising. This sacrifice was possible because the people stood by you, trusted you. It is this trust you must preserve and strengthen.”

Outlining BNP’s future roadmap, Tarique highlighted the party’s commitment to employment, healthcare, and environmental sustainability if elected to power.

He pledged to introduce international language training programmes for unemployed youth and school students to expand opportunities for overseas employment. Furthermore, he promised to prioritise primary healthcare, with plans to recruit 80% of primary healthcare workers from women, promoting gender inclusion and community health resilience.

Tarique also announced an ambitious environmental pledge: “If elected, our goal is to plant 30 to 32 crore trees across the country within five years to combat climate challenges and ensure ecological balance.”

A video documentary showcasing the 2024 mass uprising and the anti-regime movements under Sheikh Hasina’s rule was screened during the event.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas, and Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna, who presided over the event, also addressed the gathering.
