BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that discussions between the BNP delegation and the Chief Adviser were fruitful on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters after leaving the state guest house Jamuna, Fakhrul said that no discussion was held with the BNP regarding the banning of the Jatiya Party.

He said that the Chief Adviser had assured them that the national elections would be held in the first half of February, and the BNP hopes the polls will take place as per the Chief Adviser’s announcement.

Commenting on the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, Fakhrul called it a highly reprehensible act and expressed concern.

“It needs a proper investigation. Such acts are carried out by certain forces to delay the elections,” he added.

Regarding allegations from Jamaat that a meeting between the Chief Adviser and a party chief in London shows government bias toward one party, Fakhrul said, “The Chief Adviser in London met with the head of a major political party, the BNP, which he is entitled to do. It is entirely a personal matter.”
