Eleven people have been sent to jail under the Anti-Terrorism Act for holding a procession in support of the Awami League at Dhaka’s Banglamotor.
Among them, eight are said to be leaders and activists of the banned student organisation, Chhatra League.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi rejected their bail applications on Saturday after hearing the investigation officer’s submission. Sub-Inspector Jinnat Ali of the prosecution department provided this information in court.
The march, held on Friday, involved more than 100 Awami League members. Participants chanted slogans against the interim government.
According to the case dossier, the marchers spread slogans to support their organisation, conspire against the government, and harm the state.
Earlier on Saturday, two people were detained as more than 100 Awami League activists staged a protest against the interim government in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
Meanwhile, four people have been arrested in Chattogram for organising an "anti-government" procession from Cox’s Bazar to Chattogram.
Two of the arrestees are Chhatra League activists. A case has been filed at Panchlaish Model Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
