The National Citizen Party (NCP) held a protest in Mirpur on Wednesday, demanding justice and compensation for the 16 workers killed in a recent fire at a chemical warehouse and garment factory.
Mirpur Zone of NCP's Dhaka Metropolitan North, organised the protest which took place at 4 pm at Mirpur-10 Gol Chattar (Swadhinata Chattar).
Ariful Islam Adeeb, NCP's Senior Joint Convener and head of the Political Liaison Committee, presented three key demands during his speech:
1. Immediate arrest and trial of the owners of illegal chemical warehouses and garment factories, as well as those responsible for the fire.
2. Tk 1 crore in compensation for each family of the deceased.
3. Immediate removal of all chemical warehouses from residential areas in Dhaka North.
He also called for an investigation into the negligence of responsible government bodies, including the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Industries.
The protest was moderated by central organizer Mansur Abdullah and attended by party leaders and representatives from various police stations.
Speakers at the event strongly criticized the government's inaction and reiterated their demand to clear all illegal industrial facilities from residential zones in Dhaka North.
