Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday urged all anti-fascist democratic groups to remain united in resisting such destructive efforts as "the defeated forces of attempting to create unrest in order to derail the forthcoming national election",
“If all pro-uprising forces fail to come together to ensure a credible election, we will miss a major opportunity,” the Chief Adviser said during an exchange of views with senior leaders of various political parties at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
These defeated elements are causing disruptions whenever they find an opening. “Through such actions, they are seriously impeding the country’s natural progress,” he remarked.
“Each time we make strides towards election preparations, new conspiracies begin to emerge. But the truth is that no plot can obstruct the nation’s democratic journey, as unity among democratic forces against fascism is now clearly visible,” Professor Yunus added.
He expressed hope that all political parties would fully cooperate to ensure a free, fair, and participatory election.
The political leaders present at the meeting assured the Chief Adviser of their full support in this endeavour.
Those attending included Aminul Haque Tipu Biswas of the Jatiya Gano Front, Mostafa Jamal Haider of the 12-party alliance and Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar faction), Maulana Abdul Majed Athari of the Nezam-e-Islam Party, Maulana Yusuf Ashraf of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Fariduzzaman Farhad of the National People’s Party (NPP), Dr Mushtaq Hossain of Bangladesh Jasad, Bobby Hajjaj of the Nationalist Democratic Movement, Mufti Sakhawat Hossain Raji of Islami Oikya Jote, Rafiqul Islam Babul of the Bhasani Janashakti Party, Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran of Bangladesh Labour Party, Masud Rana of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), and Manjurul Islam Afendi of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, among others.
The meeting began with a one-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the recent plane crash at Milestone School and College. A munajat (prayer) was also offered, seeking peace for the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad, the meeting commenced around 5pm at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
As part of his wider engagement with political stakeholders, the Chief Adviser initiated this latest round of talks on Tuesday, meeting with leaders of four major political parties — the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and the National Citizen Party (NCP). The following day, Dr Yunus also held discussions with leaders of 13 other political parties, including Gonosamhati Andolon, the AB Party, Nagorik Oikya, Gono Odhikar Parishad, LDP, Khelafat Majlis, Biplobi Workers Party, JSD, and CPB.
