The Election Commission (EC) has received 1,760 applications raising objections or suggestions on the delimitation of 83 parliamentary seats, as part of its latest constituency map overhaul for the general election.
Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker said EC Secretariat will consolidate all submissions lodged within Aug 10 and present them to the commission.
“The commission will decide the time and venue for hearings in an upcoming meeting,” he said. “Once those are done, final boundaries for all 300 seats will be approved and officially gazetted.”
Although the EC had initially proposed adjustments in 39 constituencies, feedback has arrived from a wider set -- some calling for boundary shifts, others urging no change.
Cumilla accounted for the largest number of filings, with 683 received, while Sylhet saw the lowest, with just two entries.
Anwarul said all election arrangements would be finalised within October, in line with the EC’s roadmap.
