The government has formed a nine-member committee to examine the appeals of retired armed forces officials who were reportedly denied promotions and service benefits during the Awami League (AL) regime. The move comes amid long-standing grievances from military personnel who claim they were overlooked for career advancement, pension enhancements, and other entitlements between 2009 and August 4, 2024.
The Ministry of Defence recently issued a notification establishing the panel, which will be led by Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Defence and National Integration Development.
According to the notification, the committee will review applications submitted by retired officials of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, and Bangladesh Air Force who were affected during the AL government’s tenure. Many of these personnel have publicly voiced concerns that political bias and administrative neglect prevented them from receiving promotions, allowances, and other career benefits they were entitled to.
The committee is tasked with completing its review within two months and is expected to recommend corrective measures to ensure that eligible retired officers receive the benefits and recognition they were previously denied.
