As per tradition, the newly appointed additional judges will be sworn in by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

During this shift of power, former chief justice Obaidul Hassan resigned on Aug 10, following demands from the Students Against Discrimination that toppled the Awami League government.

A few hours later, around 9:30pm, the senior judge of the High Court Division, Syed Refaat Ahmed, was appointed as the new chief justice.
