Chief Adviser Yunus Orders Overseas Medical Care for VP Nur

Express Report
  03 Sep 2025, 03:16

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has ordered that Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur be sent abroad without delay for advanced medical treatment, following Friday’s violent attack on him.

Nur, a key student leader and prominent voice in the July Uprising, sustained serious injuries when a group of assailants launched a coordinated attack on him on the Dhaka University campus. Witnesses said the attack appeared premeditated, sparking outrage among students and civil society. Doctors treating Nur confirmed that while his condition is stable, he requires specialised care unavailable in Bangladesh.

In response, Dr. Yunus directed government authorities to arrange Nur’s urgent transfer overseas, emphasising that his safety and recovery must be given top priority. The move comes amid mounting concern over recurring violence targeting opposition-leaning student leaders, which many see as an attempt to silence dissent ahead of the DUCSU polls.
