Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker on Friday assured that demands for the Proportional Representation (PR) system and issues regarding political party symbols will not affect the organization of the National Parliament Election.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a workshop at Shaheed Satu Auditorium, the commissioner emphasized the constitutional role of the Election Commission (EC), saying the institution operates strictly within legal boundaries.

“The Election Commission is a constitutional institution. All activities are being and will be conducted according to existing laws. We cannot and will not act outside the law,” he said.

Highlighting efforts to improve electoral integrity, Anwarul Islam noted that the EC is taking decisive action against individuals involved in irregularities or illegal activities in past elections, ensuring they will be kept away from electoral duties this time.

The workshop, titled “Identifying challenges and ways to overcome those in the performance of duties by polling officials in the election process,” focused on strengthening the efficiency and accountability of polling officials ahead of the upcoming elections.
