BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman virtually addresses the ‘Khandaker Shamsul Alam Foundation’s Merit Scholarship Examination and the Results and Prize-Giving Ceremony held at Pakundia Government High School field in Kishoreganj on Saturday.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday promised that if his party returns to power, education will receive the highest budget allocation to improve quality and develop skilled, ethical human resources.

“We have a plan, as we did before. During Begum Khaleda Zia’s tenure, education consistently received the largest share of the national budget. Inshallah, if BNP is entrusted with governing the country again, we will ensure the highest allocation for education,” he said.

Tarique made the remarks while virtually addressing the ‘Khandaker Shamsul Alam Foundation’s Merit Scholarship Examination and Prize-Giving Ceremony’ at Pakundia Government High School in Kishoreganj.

His comments came in response to a question from a student, Farzana, about the measures BNP would take to improve primary education and attract students to government schools.

Tarique outlined plans to renovate and modernise dilapidated primary schools to provide students with a comfortable learning environment. He emphasised supporting teachers socially and economically so they can dedicate themselves fully to teaching.

“Education is the foundation of a nation’s progress. Our next government will prioritise primary education while instilling moral values to create a corruption-free society,” he said.

He stressed introducing lessons on integrity and anti-corruption at the primary level. “If children learn from an early age that corruption is a social evil, they will grow up resisting it, Inshallah,” he added.

Tarique also highlighted the importance of teaching social and moral values at the primary stage, including respect for elders, environmental protection, discipline, and proper study habits.

Advising students against distractions like excessive use of gadgets and social media, he urged them to focus on talent development across academics, sports, and other fields. Quoting Nelson Mandela, he said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world,” encouraging students to use learning for positive change.

He stressed the need for practical and technical education to thrive in a competitive world and announced BNP’s plans to modernise the education system through a 31-point reform programme, which includes updating the curriculum, ensuring safe campuses, and preparing students for contemporary challenges.

Tarique concluded by expressing hope to meet young people face-to-face upon his return to Bangladesh to discuss ways to rebuild and advance the nation together.
