Following the tragic Bangladesh Air Force jet crash in Dhaka’s Uttara, grief hangs heavy outside the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where heartbroken families have gathered—desperately clinging to hope, waiting for word on their loved ones.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), around 70 people injured in the horrific crash have been admitted to the burn institute—many of them children and teenagers. Among them are Shamim Yusuf, 14; Mahin, 15; Abid, 17; Rafi Barua, 21; Sayem, 12; Sayem Yusuf, 14; Muntaha, 11; Nafi, 10; Mehreen, 12; Ayman, 10; Zaena, 13; Emon, 17; Rohan, 14; Abid, 9; Ashraf, 37; Yusha, 11; Payel, 12; Albera, 10; Tasmia, 15; Mahiya; Ayan, 14; Fayaz, 14; Masuma, 38; Mahata, 14; Shamim; Zakir, 55; Niloy, 14; and Samia.

Inside the hospital, ambulance sirens rarely stop. A steady stream of scorched and unconscious victims arrive—many bearing the marks of a tragedy too immense to fathom. First aid is being administered in the overwhelmed emergency department before patients are transferred to packed wards.

The corridors echo with cries, prayers, and anxious whispers. Medical staff—exhausted but resolute—work around the clock to stabilize the wounded. Outside, relatives pace under the open sky, eyes fixed on the entrance, clinging to each passing update. The air is thick with dread and fragile hope.

“I came looking for my niece. Her name is not on any list yet,” sobbed one woman, clutching a school ID card. “They said she's inside. I don't know if she’s alive.”

The Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training jet crashed into the Hydar Ali academic building of Milestone School and College around 1:18pm during a solo training flight. The explosion and fire that followed consumed parts of the school, killing at least 20 people and injuring over 160. Among the deceased was Flight Lieutenant Toukir Islam Sagar, who initially survived the crash but later died from his injuries at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.

ISPR has urged the public to use the emergency WhatsApp number +8801769993558 for support or information.

The confirmed casualties by hospital are as follows:

  • CMH Dhaka: 12 dead, 17 injured

  • National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery: 2 dead, 70 injured

  • Kurmitola General Hospital: 2 dead, 1 injured

  • Uttara Adhunik Hospital: 1 dead, 60 injured

  • Dhaka Medical College Hospital: 1 dead, 3 injured

  • Kuwait Maitree Hospital: 8 injured

  • Uttara Crescent Hospital: 1 injured

The Bangladesh Air Force has set up a 24/7 emergency cell at its Records Office to coordinate relief, including urgent blood donation drives. Additional security from police, RAB, Ansar, and the Fire Service has been deployed around the burn institute to control the crowd and maintain order.

Senior figures, including Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, have visited the hospital to express solidarity with the victims and families.

As the nation mourns, the wounded fight for life, and families pray for miracles. The echoes of this disaster will haunt Uttara—and Bangladesh—for a long time to come.
