Three Bangladeshi expatriates, including a former BNP leader, have been shot in Italy.
italian news papers and media said the victims were admitted to the hospital after the incident in Rome's Tor Bella Monaca around 11:30pm local time on Thursday.
The three people shot are BNP Italy unit’s former organising secretary Kamruzzaman Ratan, his friend Humayun Kabir, and Mohammad Yunus.
Another person named Shahin, identified with a single name, was injured in the incident.
Members of the Bangladeshi community in Italy claim Ratan was in his business establishment when a group of armed men entered and opened fire.
Former acting president of BNP Italy unit, Aminur Rahman Salam, said: “Ratan is hospitalised in critical condition after a terrorist attack. We strongly condemn this.”
Ashif Anam Siddique, secretary of the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome, said: “The embassy has contacted the relatives of the victims. They have been assured of a proper investigation into the incident by the embassy.”
