Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's vice-president candidate Abidul Islam Khan has boycotted the DUCSU election soon after initial results were announced.
In a post on his Facebook page at around 2:30am on Wednesday, Abid wrote: “I guessed the pre-planned rigging of these results just after noon. Use whatever numbers you like. I reject this planned farce.”
On Tuesday night, he had made allegations of voting fraud in the polls. “The boxes of ballots that were alleged to be empty were later seen to be full during counting. The fraud in this election surpasses even [Shikeh] Hasina’s.”
However, Sheikh Tanvir Baree Hamim, the general secretary candidate for the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, said he would accept the verdict of the students. In a post at 2:15pm on his personal Facebook page, he wrote:
“If this is what Dhaka University students feel – even if this is their verdict, then I respect their verdict. I am waiting for the activities of the students. Though voting continued in a festive atmosphere from the morning to late in the afternoon, irregularities were noted at several centres. Specifically, technical glitches, forgery, and fraud were observed.”
