BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that a deep-seated conspiracy is underway against the country’s independence and sovereignty.

Speaking Sunday at a discussion on the book “A Theoretical Analysis of Bangladeshi Nationalism: The Crisis of Civic and Nationalist Nationalism” by Dr. Maruf Mallick, Rizvi said, “Following the political changes after August 5, threats are emerging from a neighboring country, and new powers are rising domestically. This has created an opportunity for a major conspiracy to undermine our independence.”

Alleging that narratives are being deliberately constructed against BNP, Rizvi said, “We are constantly facing threats. After August 5, divisive tones are being raised. The name of Jamaat is being invoked when BNP members are involved, while the media gives more coverage to BNP’s setbacks. Even when Jamaat leaders are implicated in scandals or looting, social media often blames BNP.”

He added, “A government adviser initiated this propaganda, which was later widely promoted by a political party. Narratives against BNP are being constructed in multiple ways.”

On the Dhaka University Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, Rizvi questioned, “Has a VP been given the power of a magistrate? He is reportedly collecting fines from university shops, and the money is going to Jamaat’s Baitul Maal — is there any legal basis?”

He also criticized the politicization of student dorms, saying, “A university is for knowledge, not an orphanage. Political influence is spreading through facilities like iron cots, harming education and student life.”

Regarding party accountability, Rizvi said, “BNP takes action against corruption within its ranks, suspending, expelling, and penalizing where necessary. But these efforts aren’t publicized. Instead, a planned propaganda campaign targets us in the media.”

BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Organizing Secretary Principal Selim Bhuiyan, and senior journalist Amirul Islam Kagzi attended the event.
