BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said the people are the ultimate judge on the trial of the deposed Awami League (AL).

"If Awami League occurs any wrongdoing, then it will be exposed into trial in line with the country's laws. Wrongdoers must face trial process - whether it is an individual or a party," he said in an interview with BBC Bangla aired Monday morning.

Tarique Rahman called for justice enunciating the ordeals he and his family members faced with protraying the plight of thousands of families by Awami League in Bangladesh.

He currently resides in United Kingdom (UK) after leaving the country 17 years ago for medical treatment enduring physical torture inflicted upon him during the time of the so-called "One-Eleven" government.

The BNP acting chairman said: "I left behind a house filled with the memories of my father, the house where I and my younger brother grew up, and our two brothers' children were born".

"Those memories have been shattered and turned to dust. I left behind my brother, but he is no more now. I left behind my mother in good health, but now she is not in good health," he added.

Tarique Rahman said there are thousands of families that have the same story like my family in Bangladesh.

"Everyone responsible for committing injustices, killings, murders, and torture-including those who issued the orders for these-must face trial," he said.

"It is not revenge, rather it is a matter of justice and law. If injustice occurs, then trial must be held," he added.

BNP believes the people are the source of all political power, Tarique Rahman stated.

He expressed his strong belief that the people cannot support any political party or individuals who murder people, commit enforced disappearances and loot the country's assets and launder it abroad.

"Since the BNP believes in the power and decisions of the people, so we want to keep trust in the people's decision," he said.

He concluded that if a political organization does not have the support of the people, no reason for it to survive.
