Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman has threatened to take to the streets if steps are not taken immediately to address allegations of vote rigging and stop post-election attacks on party activists.
He spoke at a press conference on Friday night after an hour-long meeting with leaders of the 11-party alliance in Moghbazar.
He claimed that several candidates from the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance were "robbed of victory" through “rigging”.
He also alleged that supporters of the winning party have been carrying out arson attacks and vandalism on the homes of alliance workers since the voting closed.
He added that the party would “chart its own course” if legal and administrative remedies over their allegations were not ensured.
National Citizen Party Convenor Nahid Islam and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis chief Mamunul Haque also spoke at the press conference. They, however, did not take any questions from journalists.
