Experts have advised the National Consensus Commission to once again hold official talks with political parties on how to implement the July National Charter.
After a meeting with experts on Sunday, the commission held a review meeting in the parliament building on Monday.
There, it was decided to meet with the parties once more, said commission spokesman Paban Chowdhury.
He said, “The National Consensus Commission held a meeting to review the expert opinions it received on the ways to implement the July National Charter.
“During this time, the views and suggestions received from the experts in last Sunday’s meeting were reviewed. At the same time, the opinions given by the political parties on these issues were also analysed. The commission has decided to hold formal discussions with the political parties on these issues.”
The meeting was attended by the commission’s Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz and members Badiul Alam Majumder, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain and Md Ayub Mia.
Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider, who was involved in the consensus-building process, also attended the meeting.
The last formal consensus commission meeting with the political parties was on Jul 31. Twenty-six out of 30 political parties submitted their opinions on the draft of the July Charter to the Consensus Commission on Aug 22.
Since then, several informal meetings have been between the panel and the political parties.
