A court has imposed a travel ban on former state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu and his wife Seema Hamid.

On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order after a hearing.

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s, or ACC, Court Inspector Amir Hossain told bdnews24.com that they applied for a travel ban for Nasrul and his wife.

According to the court application, the anti-graft agency said during the investigation, based on information obtained from confidential sources, it learned that Nasrul and his wife planned to launder money and travel overseas

It is alleged that during his tenure, Nasrul misused his office and assisted in acquiring assets worth approximately Tk 69 million in the name of his wife Seema Hamid, which is a punishable offence under section 109 of the Penal Code.

The investigation into this case is ongoing.

On Dec 26, the ACC announced that it prosecuted Nasrul for gaining illicit wealth.

It also filed separate cases against his son Zareef Hamid and wife. Nasrul is also named as a defendant in those cases.
