
Police have arrested one Himon Rahman Shikdar, an Adabar Thana Jubo League activist and an associate of Alamgir, the motorcyclist allegedly involved in the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and Dhaka-8 prospective candidate Sharif Osman Hadi.
The arrest was made on Wednesday around 2:00pm during a raid at a residential hotel in the Adabar area, based on secret information received by the Intelligence and Analysis Division (IAD), said Officer-in-charge of Adabar Thana Ziaur Rahman.
Following information provided by the arrestee, police recovered a foreign-made pistol, three rounds of live ammunition, fireworks, crackers, gunpowder and various materials used for making cocktails from the house of his associate Mehdi in the Baitul Aman Housing area under Adabar Thana.
Police said preliminary interrogation revealed that Himon Rahman Shikdar and his associate were planning subversive activities. Efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has asked police to explain their delay in producing Aminul Islam Raju, a suspect in the murder of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, following his arrest.
Police will have to explain in 15 days.
On Wednesday evening, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid issued the order while serving show-cause notices to prosecution police and the lockup in-charge at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court over the delay.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Qayyum Hossain Nayan confirmed the order passed by the court.
Raju was arrested around 1:30pm at Mirpur-11 on charge of helping Faisal Karim Masud, the main suspect in the Hadi murder, flee Bangladesh across the border.
Police Inspector of the De Faisal Ahmed produced Raju before the court around 6pm, seeking permission to take him into custody for 10 days for quizzing.
