AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Mohammad Sohail.

Former Supreme Court (SC) Appellate Division Judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and retired Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail were interrogated in the journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case.

A high-powered taskforce formed by the Home Ministry interrogated them recently at Dhaka Central Jail gate, investigation officer Azizul Haque said.

“Their information is being verified,” he said.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam granted the investigating officer to interrogate Manik and Sohail at the jail gate on February 18.

Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, an accused of the case, was also interrogated at the jail gate, IO said.

Journalist couple Sagar-Runi were murdered in their flat in West Rajabazar under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar thana on February 11, 2012.

The murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi, who were brutally killed in their Dhaka home in February 2012, remains unsolved, sparking widespread outrage and demands for justice.

Sagar, a senior reporter for the private TV channel Maasranga, and Runi, a reporter for the ATN Bangla, were found murdered under mysterious circumstances. Despite multiple investigations and arrests, the case has yet to conclude.

The lack of progress has raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement and the safety of journalists in Bangladesh. The case continues to be a symbol of impunity for crimes against media workers.
