Bangladesh tigers roared back on Sunday into the T20 series with a commanding 83-run win over Sri Lanka in the second match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium , levelling the three-match series 1-1.

Batting first, the visitors posted a competitive 177 for 7, powered by Liton Das’s commanding 76 off 50 balls and Shamim Hossain’s aggressive 48 off 27 deliveries. The pair’s efforts laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s biggest T20 victory against any ICC full member by run margin. Their only larger win remains an 84-run triumph over Papua New Guinea at the 2021 T20 World Cup.

In reply, Sri Lanka collapsed for just 94 runs, registering their lowest T20I total at home. It also marked the first time Sri Lanka were bowled out for under 100 in a T20 against Bangladesh.

All five Bangladeshi bowlers contributed, with Rishad Hossain leading the attack with career-best figures of 3 for 18, while Shoriful Islam impressed with 2 for 12 in three overs.

Liton Leads from the Front

After a prolonged lean patch, Liton Das returned to form in style, notching up his first T20I fifty in 13 innings. The Bangladesh skipper struck five sixes and a boundary, capitalising on two dropped chances to anchor the innings.

"I’ve been trying to play good cricket, but it wasn’t coming off," Liton said after being named Player of the Match. “Credit goes to Shamim as well. His fearless batting eased the pressure and gave me the space to settle in.”

He also highlighted Shamim’s crucial run-out of Kusal Mendis, Sri Lanka’s top performer in the previous match, as the turning point. “That dismissal was vital. Mendis was in great form and removing him early shifted the momentum,” he added.

Bowlers and Fielders Seal the Deal

Praising his bowlers, Liton said, “Rishad is a game-changer. When he bowls well, we’re always in the match. Shoriful was also excellent with the new ball.”

Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka credited Bangladesh's fielding effort for turning the tide: “We were undone by poor batting and some brilliant fielding. The run-out of Mendis was a crucial moment. Still, we hope to bounce back in the decider.”

With the series now tied 1-1, the final match on Wednesday promises a thrilling finish.
