BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi, describing the killing as a “conspiracy-driven political murder.”

In a condolence message issued on Thursday, Tarique prayed for Hadi’s soul and extended heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family.

“We are observing with grave concern as certain criminal groups carry out planned killings and attacks across the country. This bloodshed is part of a broader blueprint,” he said.

“Enemies of democracy and the nation shot Hadi, leaving him critically injured, and he succumbed to his injuries in Singapore on Thursday,” Tarique added.

Condemning the attack, he urged immediate action. “This dedicated young politician’s murder was a calculated political killing. Following the fall of the Awami League’s authoritarian rule through the student and public movement, conspirators are shedding blood again to impose misrule.

“They are actively attempting to destabilise the country, and the attack on Hadi demonstrates their intent to undermine democracy and sabotage upcoming elections.”

Tarique warned: “Unless these criminals are decisively punished, public safety and property will remain at extreme risk. The conspirators are waiting to exploit disorder. Everyone must unite to resist these bloodthirsty elements.”

Hadi, who was shot in the head during election campaigning in Dhaka a week ago, passed away at a hospital in Singapore.

Tarique reiterated that the perpetrators must be apprehended immediately and face exemplary punishment. “This untimely death is a grave reminder of the human cost of political violence,” he said.

“Hadi was a brave political activist and a fearless voice who always stood up against injustice,” Tarique added.

He highlighted Hadi’s role following the July mass uprising, saying that, as spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, Hadi had played a significant role in defending the rights of July fighters, upholding democratic values, and protecting national interests. “I extend my deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and fellow activists,” he said.

Tarique also called on the interim government to conduct a swift investigation with utmost priority, ensuring that the perpetrators are apprehended and justice is served. “Together, we must safeguard every citizen and prevent any incident aimed at destabilising Bangladesh and undermining our democratic aspirations,” he said.

Sharif Osman Hadi emerged as a key figure during the July Uprising and served as convenor of Inqilab Moncho. He had also been preparing to contest the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

On 12 December, Hadi was shot at close range while travelling in a rickshaw in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. Two men on a motorcycle opened fire and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, then transferred to Evercare Hospital, and finally to Singapore, where he died on Thursday night while receiving treatment.
