A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand for former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in a case involving charges of corruption and document forgery.

The remand order was passed today (30 July) by Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah, following a petition filed by Sub-Inspector Md Khaled Mia of Shahbagh Police Station.

The case, filed at Shahbagh Police Station, accuses Haque of abusing his authority as a public official to unlawfully issue court decisions, as well as forging official government and court documents.

Haque was detained by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 24 July from his Dhanmondi residence.

Multiple cases have been filed against him over the past year. On 18 August 2024, lawyer Imrul Hasan lodged a case alleging fraud and forgery related to the controversial annulment of the 13th amendment to the Constitution, which had abolished the caretaker government system.

Further cases followed, including one filed on 26 August in Narayanganj and another on 27 August 2024 by Supreme Court lawyer Mujahidul Islam Shaheen at Shahbagh Police Station, accusing Khairul Haque of corruption and issuing fraudulent verdicts.
