Nahid Islam, the convenor of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), declared that Bangladesh will never be divided again and emphasized that there will be no room for pro-India or pro-Pakistan politics in the country. Speaking at the party's inaugural event on Friday evening, held outside the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue, he stated that the focus of the NCP is on the future—on the dreams and possibilities for a united and prosperous Bangladesh.

The 26-year-old leader pledged to change what he termed as past attempts to “weaken the people of Bangladesh” through divisive politics.

The NCP was officially unveiled on Friday afternoon at Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue in an event organised by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee.

Following the announcement of the party’s partial committee, Nahid delivered the closing speech and read out its declaration.

“We believe that the divisive politics used to weaken the people of Bangladesh and the state itself was shattered by the unity demonstrated during the July Uprising,” he said.

“From this platform today, we take an oath: Bangladesh will never be divided again. There will be no place for pro-India or pro-Pakistan politics.

“Our politics and state-building efforts will be centred solely on Bangladesh and the interests of its people,” he said.

Nahid Islam, convenor of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), spoke passionately about the future of Bangladesh, urging the nation to move beyond past struggles and focus on the possibilities and dreams of a new Bangladesh. "We are here today to realize that dream," he said, referencing the chants of "The alternative, the alternative," which symbolized the emergence of the new political party.

In his speech, Nahid reflected on Bangladesh's history, highlighting the struggles and sacrifices made by the people. He recalled the colonial era, the formation of Pakistan, and the subsequent fight for independence, leading to the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. He lamented that even after achieving independence, the country has repeatedly struggled to establish a political system that upholds democracy, equality, and justice.

He criticized the "ruthless fascist" regime that took hold over the past 15 years, warning that the political system had been deeply corrupted. Referring to the July 2024 uprising, which led to the downfall of the regime, Nahid emphasized that the people's fight was not just to change the government but to dismantle the fascist structures entrenched in the state.

The National Citizen Party aims to create a democratic, equality-based, and representative political system, focusing on rebuilding Bangladesh's institutions and ensuring that the marginalized voices are heard. Nahid expressed that the goal of the new political movement is to establish a "second republic" built on justice, unity, and merit, where corruption and nepotism are eradicated, and every citizen’s rights are protected.

“Our republic will protect citizens from poverty, inequality, and the abuse of power,” Nahid affirmed, stressing that the party is committed to fostering a fair and equal society. "Now is the time to dream anew, to forge a new path, and to build a new Bangladesh," he concluded.
