BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the Awami League must be brought to justice as a political party, holding its chief, deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, personally responsible for the killing of thousands of people.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after visiting two BNP Chairperson’s advisers undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon, Fakhrul said:
"Sheikh Hasina, as the head of the Awami League, bears direct responsibility for the mass killings. Legal proceedings against her have already begun, and we are hopeful that she and others involved will be held accountable."

He said justice should not be limited to individuals alone, but must extend to political organisations that support or implement authoritarian rule.
"We believe that political parties which support fascism—particularly the Awami League—must be punished as a whole. Every one of its members should be brought under the law and made accountable," Fakhrul asserted.

The BNP leader emphasised that the country must be rescued from its current state through a united national effort.
"It is the duty of every political party to help bring the country back on track. The sooner that happens, the better for all," he said.

Fakhrul also addressed those sceptical of participating in elections, calling on them to reassess their position.
"Polls are essential for the people. We need a government that is truly elected and connected to public aspirations. That’s why we are actively participating in the reform process. We were the ones who demanded each of these reforms. So, there is no contradiction between reforms and elections — the two must go hand in hand," he concluded.
