Masuma Hadi, younger sister of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, has alleged that India and the Awami League are seeking to derail the parliamentary elections, stressing that such attempts must not be allowed to succeed.

She made the remarks on Friday while departing Jhalakathi's Nalchity for Dhaka.

Masuma said the election could not be allowed to be foiled under any circumstances and stressed that forces relying on violence must not be allowed to assume power.

Describing the struggle as a “200-year fight”, she said the message was the same regardless of party or identity. Bangladesh, she said, must be “built on justice”.

“We do not want to live under the subservience of any state. We want to live with our heads held high,” she said.

She called for a just Bangladesh where the child of a rickshaw puller would enjoy the same opportunities as the child of a minister.

“That is the state we must establish,” she said.
